Lava Falls Rapid at river mile 179.7 is a class 8-10 depending on flow and what kind of boat you're on. The ledge right at the beginning in the center of the river is impressive. There's a slight tendency to get wet in this rapid. Then you hit the big waves. Some of those boulders along the right side are pretty close in size to the motor rig I was on. Sadly, this doesn't give you a real sense of depth to the waves. Even on moderate flows, you have water over your head from time to time.
There's a small spring or two just below Lava Falls at river left. Makes for a very nice, lush environment to stare at while the water drips from your hair, nose, arms, etc...
