Look in the distance and take a look at the angle of the layers. The topography of the layers in the canyon is far from flat and as you go down the river you go in and out of the Vishnu Schist and Zoroaster Granite (the deepest layers you see) a couple of times.
The layering in the Canyon gets interesting in places, but this was the only place I saw where the lower layers were literally vertical and then overlain with something mostly horizontal. That's significant folding!
