Grand Canyon's Great Unconformity is a gap in the geologic record where Tapeats Sandstone lays atop the Precambrian basement rocks of the canyon. This gap that my hand is spanning represents approximately one BILLION years of missing rocks... The vast majority of what you see from the rim was deposited in only half of that time.
