The boat beach at Lee's Ferry. This is the departure point for all Grand Canyon rafting trips and marks mile zero on the river. The ferry site was established in 1871-2 and was the only crossing point on the river for hundreds of miles until 1928 when the Navajo Bridge was constructed. Founder John Doyle Lee was directed to create the ferry by the LDS church in part to hide him from Federal agents investigating his role in the Mountain Meadows Massacre.
