Crystal Rapid at mile 98.8 is one of the two most well known rapids in Grand Canyon. It is also one of the biggest, carrying an official rating of 9/10 (western rivers use 1-10 instead of 1-5). All that said, if run it properly you hardly get wet at all on an oar boat. Not so much if you end up in the big hole on the left... It also has a large rock garden below the rapid that catches boats, sometimes requiring a helicopter to free them and the passengers! In 1983 the river reached flows of 100,000 cfs (normally it's more like 10-20,000) and this rapid became a monster. It destroyed motor rigs, snapping the webbing that holds them together with thousands of pounds of force and caused a fatality. For the moment at least, there's some low res video of the 1983 flood here: http://vimeo.com/1494898
