Vasey's Paradise was named by John Wesley Powell for friend George Vasey, a botanist. Underground water in the area moves laterally through the Redwall Limestone because the Muav Limestone below is impermeable. This leads to waterfalls like this one, which also just happens to be one of a very few locations in the Canyon where you can run into poison ivy. Mile 32.2.
Vasey's Paradise. I cannot remember the specifics, but people have ventured some distance back into the cave system feeding this waterfall.
