Portent The Fat Man fission bomb was the second and last atomic weapon to be used in war. The original Fat Man was deployed over Nagasaki, Japan in August of 1945 by Bockscar, the B-29 pictured behind the bomb. It detonated with a yield of 21 kilotons at an altitude of 1,800' when high explosives compressed the plutonium core to supercritical density.
Little Boy was the first atomic weapon used in war. It was detonated over Hiroshima, Japan in August 1945 with a yield of 13-18 kilotons.
The Valley of the Shadow Of... From left to right these are the: PGM-19A Jupiter, PGM-17A Thor, LGM-25C Titan II, HGM-25A TItan I, Thor Agena A, LGM-30G Minuteman III, LGM-118A Peacekeeper. All but the Thor Agena are/were nuclear armed ballistic missiles. The Minuteman III fleet still serves as an active part of the United States' nuclear deterent, sleeping in their silos awaiting armaggeddon.
